Victoria Park is one of the ten best green spaces in the UK.

Members of the public have voted Victoria Park in Tower Hamlets one of the ten best green spaces in the UK.

Victoria Park, affectionately known as Vicky Park and owned and managed by Tower Hamlets Council has been named by Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award team as one of its “People’s Choice” parks in the UK following a national vote by members of the public.

The outcome of this year’s vote means that Victoria Park has retained the People’s Choice title for a 13th consecutive year. The park is also the only park in London in the top 10 this year.

The special recognition comes after the site achieved the prestigious Green Flag Award quality mark, which recognises and accredits high quality and well managed green spaces, earlier this year.

Victoria Park’s success and popularity is thanks to ongoing improvements and the dedication of our team to preserving its beauty and heritage.

Recent enhancements include the extensive restoration of the Old English Garden, a much-loved feature that now offers a tranquil escape with stunning seasonal displays. Our historical landmarks continue to captivate visitors, from the Burdett Coutts Memorial Fountain and the elegant Chinese Pagoda to the original London Bridge alcoves, which add a unique sense of history to every walk.

Vicky Park is also home to three beautiful lakes, providing habitats for wildlife and peaceful spots for relaxation. These features, combined with our commitment to sustainability and community engagement, ensure the park remains a treasured destination for all.

Councillor Kamrul Hussain, Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation, said: "Parks and green spaces are havens of welcome, leisure, and solace for all. Victoria Park, the largest in our borough, draws over nine million visitors each year to enjoy community events, live music, and sport. Thanks to the dedication of our staff and volunteers, it’s a place we’re proud to call ours. My thanks to everyone who voted and helped secure this prestigious award."

The 10 People’s Choice winners are among a record breaking 2,250 parks and green spaces that achieved the Green Flag Award this year, with successful submissions from local authorities and other land managers across the country for a range of sites, from world-famous city parks to small, local green spaces.

Green Flag Award manager Paul Todd MBE said: “The People’s Choice awards is our way of helping the public recognise the hard work done by the thousands of parks staff and volunteers up and down the country who work tirelessly to make their parks and green spaces fantastic places that everyone can enjoy.

“Victoria Park and the other nine winning sites represent some of the UK’s hardest working individuals and groups working within our highest quality parks – and this has clearly been recognised and appreciated by the public.

“We want to say a huge congratulations to everyone involved.”

Parks provide crucial benefits to people and their pets including safe spaces to exercise, play, and relax.

They also play an important role in providing habitat for wildlife and climate change resilience.

The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy, Keep Scotland Beautiful and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.
