School Clothing Grants
What is a School Clothing Grant?
A school clothing grant helps with the cost of school uniform for children starting reception year or transferring to secondary school.
This year, this grant has been extended for children moving into years 3 and 10 from September 2026.
How much is the grant?
- Reception and year 3: £50 per child
- Secondary School year 7 and year 10: £150 per child
Do you qualify?
Applications can only be made when you are notified of your child’s school placement up to 30 September that year.
To qualify for a School Clothing Grant you must:
- live in Tower Hamlets (unless we have rehoused you in another borough)
- have a household income less than £60,000
- be the parent or guardian of a child who is:
- starting secondary school and born between September 2014 and August 2015
- moving into year 10 from September 2026
- starting reception and born between September 2021 and August 2022
- moving into year 3 from September 2026
When should you apply?
You can apply from 1 May until 30 September.
How to apply
To complete this form you will need
- Your National Insurance number
- Your benefit number if you are receiving Housing Benefit or Council tax Reduction
- Details of your household earnings (unless you receive Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction)
- The name of the School your child is starting in September
- Your latest bank statement
