What to do

You must register a birth in person and cannot ask a relative or friend to attend instead.

The baby's father can only register the birth on his own if you are or were married at the time of the birth. If not, he cannot register the birth and include his details unless he attends with you. The Register Office will be happy to advise you further.

If you have any difficulties with English please let us know so we can arrange an interpreter for you. If you know someone who is willing to interpret for you please bring them with you.
