Lithium battery fires

Lithium batteries have caused fires in the rubbish lorries. Please do not put batteries in your waste or recycling bin. All batteries (including lithium batteries from e-bikes and e-scooters and other re-chargeable devices) can be taken to the Reuse and Recycling Centre at Northumberland Wharf.

Carbon Reduction Community Grants Programme

Grants available

The Carbon Reduction Community Grants Programme is open to any Community Group, Community Interest Company and Charity in Tower Hamlets. The grants help support carbon reductions through building retrofit projects or community engagement activities.

These grants can fund your programme although match funding for your project is favourable.

Gas boiler replacements and renewable energy installations

If you are replacing a gas boiler with a form of electric heating (such as a heat pump) or installing a renewable energy technology (such as Solar Panels), you can apply for up to £20,000.

Energy retrofit projects

For all other energy retrofit projects, such as lighting and replacement equipment you can apply for up to £10,000.

Learning and behavioural change projects

Grants of up to £5,000 to carry out learning and behavioural change projects. These are projects that should improve learning and encourage behaviour change of local residents and groups on energy and carbon reduction. The aim is that this will result in evidenced carbon reductions.

All projects must take place in Tower Hamlets.

Any project that can demonstrate a carbon reduction will be considered. Gas boilers are not eligible for funding.
