Lithium battery fires

Lithium batteries have caused fires in the rubbish lorries. Please do not put batteries in your waste or recycling bin. All batteries (including lithium batteries from e-bikes and e-scooters and other re-chargeable devices) can be taken to the Reuse and Recycling Centre at Northumberland Wharf.

We offer a mixture of scheduled bins and sacks collections, as well as pre-paid sacks, so you can choose the option that best serves the needs of your business.

You can have your business waste collected as often as you need, and the service is charged by the container. Prices for recycling containers are significantly discounted – why not start separating recyclable material and reduce the cost of your waste? The cost for all bins and sacks is included within our prices.

The pre-paid products comprise of red sacks for general waste (in rolls of 50), clear and red sacks for mixed recycling (in packs of 26), and stickers for bundled cardboard (in packs of 26).

You can recycle all of the following materials mixed together: 

  • Mixed glass bottles and jars
  • Food and drink cans
  • Plastic containers including plastic bottles, plastic pots and tubs, margarine containers, ice cream tubs and yoghurt pots
  • Mixed card
  • Mixed paper
  • Food and drink cartons
  • Aerosols
  • Telephone directories

You can have your waste and recycling collected as frequently as you need, and the service is charged 'by the container'.

You must always use special trade recycling or waste sacks or bin.  You should never use household sacks or bins to dispose of trade waste as this is illegal and could result in you being issued with a penalty.
