Parking charges 2025 to 2026

How we calculate the permit price

Most permit prices are based on the vehicle’s CO2 emissions as recorded by the DVLA.

If the DVLA does not show any CO2 emissions for your vehicle (for example, it says “Not recorded”, “Not available” or “0 g/km”), then the following rules apply:

  1. Vehicles registered before 1 March 2001: If the vehicle has no recorded CO2 emissions, we use the engine size (cc) to calculate the permit price.

  2. Petrol, diesel, or hybrid vehicles registered on or after 1 March 2001: If the DVLA has no CO2 information or records it as 0 g/km, the permit will automatically fall under Band 4.

  3. Electric vehicles: If the DVLA confirms that the vehicle is fully electric, the permit falls under the electric vehicle band, not Band 4.

Additional surcharges

  • For resident permits, a second and third permit at the same address will include an extra surcharge.

  • A diesel surcharge applies to all diesel vehicles.

You can check your vehicle’s details on your logbook (V5C) or the DVLA website.

A table below shows examples of how permit prices are calculated. The table is for resident permits.
