Eagle-eyed CCTV operatives helped save a baby swan after seeing it struggling on their cameras.
The team spotted the cygnet on a pontoon in Shadwell Basin falling over, struggling to stand up and having difficulty swimming.
They immediately sent the video to The Swan Sanctuary, a charity dedicated to the care and treatment of swans and waterfowl, to see if they could help.
Volunteers at the charity went to the cygnet’s aid and were able to safely catch it. They found the cygnet had a fishing hook embedded in it and it was tangled in fishing wire.
The volunteers were able to free the cygnet and return it to its family.
