Six arrested and drugs, a gun and cash seized

Six men have been charged after £2,000 worth of drugs, a gun and £22,000 in cash was seized after police carried out seven warrants at seven addresses in Tower Hamlets.

The action is part of Operation Continuum, set up with the council and police to tackle drug supply and distribution in the district that continues to work with communities and partners, balancing the need for diversion and support with enforcement.   

Officers from Central East BCU’s Gangs Task Force, with the support of the Met’s Territorial Support Group, conducted search warrants at seven addresses in Tower Hamlets; five in E14 and two in E3.

During the day of action, five adult males were arrested and a significant quantity of drugs and cash were seized. They have since been charged and remanded in custody.

The charges issued were as follows:

  • Emdadur Rahman, 24, of Violet Road – being concerned in the supply of class A drugs (crack cocaine and heroin)
  • Muhammed Alamgir Alam, 32, of Hatton Close – conspiracy to supply class A drugs (crack cocaine and heroin)
  • Iqbal Miah, 24, of Violet Road – possession of criminal property (cash) and possession with intent to supply class B drugs (cannabis)
  • Muhibur Rahman, 18, of Gough Walk – conspiracy to supply class A drugs (crack cocaine and heroin) and conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life
  • Ayo Ogunlaja, 52, of Cheadle House – conspiracy to supply class A drugs (crack cocaine and heroin) and conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life
  • Mashud Miah, 25, of Violet Road – conspiracy to supply class A drugs (crack cocaine and heroin) and conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life

Sean Lyons, Detective Chief Inspector Central East, said:

“Central East Police remain committed to proactively targeting those causing harm within the Tower Hamlets community.

“Drugs and violent crime are inextricably linked and police focus continues on relentlessly tackling these offences and seeking justice for those affected.

“These results represent just some of the extensive policing activity underway across the borough to help make it a safer place for all.”

Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, said:

“We have a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs in our borough.

“Drugs ruin lives and we will work hard with police and other partners to bring anyone believed to be involved in supplying drugs to justice.”

Cllr Abu Talha Chowdhury, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, said:

“This is a fantastic result and shows that the council and police are taking decisive action against those believed to be involved in drugs in our community.

“Drugs ruin people’s lives and will not be tolerated in Tower Hamlets.”
