Community engagement strategy
What is community engagement and why is it important to the council?
The council’s Strategic Plan 2022-2026 sets out its priorities for the borough over the next three years.
One of the priorities in the strategy is to create a council that listens and works for everyone. Without strong community engagement, we won’t achieve this.
Community Engagement happens when communities have a say over the decisions that affect their lives.
We believe that if the council and the community work together to make decisions it will lead to better policies and services that improve the lives of residents.
Why are we developing a new strategy?
The council is committed to delivering effective community engagement. We are developing a strategy to help us achieve our ambition.
We want to work with the community and partners to agree on a vision and objectives for our community engagement and a plan for how we will achieve it.
To develop the strategy, we want to engage with communities and partners from all sections of Tower Hamlets, especially:
- Residents
- VCS organisations
- Elected members
- Public sector partners
- Council officers
How can I get involved?
From 12 October to 24 November 2023, we are engaging with our communities and partners in several ways.

Partner workshops
We are organising two workshops for partners, where we will hold a world café style discussion. One will be online and the other in-person. If you want to attend please sign-up.
We are also organising workshops with elected members, council officers and residents.
Analysing your feedback
After the engagement process we will go through the information collected from the survey, drop-in sessions and workshops to identify what people have said.
We will then combine this with the research we have been doing on good practice from other organisations and use it to write a draft strategy.
Following the development of the draft strategy, we will contact the people who have taken part to share the impact their involvement has had on the development of the strategy.
