Round two of the Carbon Reduction Community Grants Programme, which supports local community groups, charities, and community interest companies to cut their carbon opens on 7 July 2023.
The £460,000 fund is part of a larger £700,000 package which responds to the climate emergency locally by funding carbon reduction projects for 36 local organisations.
In the first round, approximately £200,000 was awarded to 11 organisations for projects dedicated to reducing their carbon emissions and making their organisations more sustainable.
These projects are currently ongoing and will include the installation of renewable technologies, including solar panels and anaerobic digestion technologies; energy retrofits, including LED lighting and improving efficiency of windows; and educational projects, such as a food waste study and green events programme.
Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, said:
“Responding to the climate emergency is a key priority for the council and essential for our borough. We are delighted to be able to support projects that are taking action on the climate emergency with this funding.
“Our local communities and organisations have a wide variety of skillsets that can contribute a great deal to reducing carbon emissions and becoming a more sustainable borough. We look forward to both the start of these projects and new proposals for carbon reduction opportunities.”
“We are committed to delivering a cleaner, greener future for Tower Hamlets, and this Carbon Reduction Community Grants Programme is just one way in which we will realise this ambition.”
If your charity, community group or community interest company is based in Tower Hamlets, you can apply for funding as part of this project from 7 July to 25 August 2023.
