Elective Home Education

What is Elective Home Education or 'home schooling'?

Elective Home Education is when parents choose to educate their children at home instead of sending them to school (also known as 'home schooling').

We must confirm that the child is being taught to a satisfactory standard.

For more details on home schooling, please see our Home Education Policy for parents and carers.

You must inform the school in writing if you want to home educate

If you are a parent / carer and your child is on roll at a school, you must first inform the school in writing that you intend to home educate.

Children who are being home educated do not get any extra priority on school waiting lists.

If you would like to apply for a school place or school transfer instead, please visit School Admissions for further information including banding arrangements for children starting Year 7.

How to inform us if a child is being home educated

You must be connected to the child in one of the following ways:

  • Parent
  • Carer
  • School
  • Other agency (such as a social worker, GP, Parent Advice Centre staff)
