Manage your council tax account

Need the advice we used to send out with your bills? You can view it online in our explanatory notes.

My council tax account

You can set up a secure online account to access and manage your council tax information at any time.

If your latest bill shows a credit and you want to request a refund you can apply using this service.

With an online account you can:

  • Check the balance and details of your account
  • Request a copy bill
  • Request a refund
  • View any discounts or reductions you may have been granted
  • Apply for an exemption or discount
  • Make a payment (these will take three days to show on your account)
  • Change your method of  payment to direct debit (if the bank account is in your name)
  • Tell us about your change of address or contact details

More and more, individuals and organisations are trying to reduce their environmental footprint. One way you can help the council do this, is by switching to paperless billing using your council tax account.

Sign up for online access to your account.

Once your online access has been approved, we will email you your user ID and password.

User IDs are allocated to individuals who are responsible for paying council tax on properties in the borough. Each individual will need to register for their own User ID and password.

Paying your bill

To make it as quick and easy as possible for you, we have a number of ways that you can make your payment.

Please note we no longer accept payments made using the Barclays Pingit service.

Online

All you need to pay online is the account number that appears on the top of your bill, and a debit/credit card. Please note, we cannot accept American Express, Diners Cards or Solo.

By Direct Debit

There are two ways you can set up a monthly direct debit:

  • By completing the form enclosed with your most recent bill
  • Online. You’ll need your council tax number, as well as your bank/building society sort code, account number and address.

This is the most convenient method of payment as, unlike a standing order, you do not have to renew it each year or any time there is a change on your account.

This payment will show as 'LBTH Council Tax' on your bank statement.

Over the phone

You can call our 24 hour automated service on 020 7364 3800. You can pay with most major credit or debit cards. Please note, we cannot accept American Express, Diners Cards or Solo.
