Millwall Park offers a variety of facilities, including football pitches, cricket, bowls, play areas (toddlers, juniors and older children), a play centre for under 5s and changing rooms.
There are paths for strolling, seats, trees, meadows and other planting for biodiversity and scenic value. The site represents the heritage of the former docks and shipping industries in the shape of the now disused railway viaduct and the former ropewalk, all within view of Canary Wharf.
This former docklands site complements the formal, riverside Island Gardens, by providing for sports and play as well as space to get away from the urban scene and to see the sky. The site is linked to the Mudchute Urban Park and Farm. Together with Island Gardens, the three sites together offer a tremendous variety of scenic interest and considerable wildlife value, all within the heart of London.
The community makes good use of the site with a high level of sporting activity and an increasing amount of community events. Local schools and office workers from Canary Wharf make good use of the site.
We are improving the quality and range of facilities as well as the biodiversity value of the site. In the summer of 2018 an outdoor gym was installed .
The park currently holds a Green Flag Award.
A new children's playground
Work will begin on a new playground on 7 June 2021. The playground and all surrounding landscaping will be completed by the end of October 2021. During that period the playground will be closed and the path that runs from the arches south of the playground to East Ferry Road will be also be closed.
We are installing temporary play equipment to sit alongside the existing playground by the Children’s Centre before the work starts so that children will have access to some play equipment in the park over the summer.
