Council and Mayoral elections 2022
On Thursday 5 May 2022, elections took place to elect the council's 45 Borough Ward Councillors and the Tower Hamlets Executive Mayor.
The Notice of Election is scheduled to be published on 28 March 2022 which is the start of the formal timetable. This details all of the steps and deadlines until polling day which is scheduled for Thursday 5 May 2022.

Nominations must be submitted by hand to the electoral services team on the 7th Floor of the Town Hall. They can only be submitted between 10am and 4pm on each day up to the deadline.
It is recommended that an appointment is made to submit nominations.

- The deadline to register to vote is midnight Thursday 14 April 2022. You can register to vote on the government website.
- the deadline to receive new postal vote applications or to change/cancel an existing postal, proxy or postal proxy vote arrangement is 5pm, Tuesday 19 April 2022
- the deadline to receive new proxy vote applications (not postal proxy or emergency proxies) is 5pm, Tuesday 26 April 2022.
- Polling day is from 7am until 10pm on Thursday 5 May 2022.
Further details of nominated candidates, locations of polling places and other information will be published in due course as the timetable progresses.
The verification of the ballot papers for all polls on Thursday 5 May 2022 will take place in the East Wintergarden, Canary Wharf. It will start at 8am on Friday 6 May 2022.
Once the verification is complete, the count of votes cast for the Tower Hamlets Executive Mayor will begin on the same day.
The count of votes cast to elect the Borough Ward Cllrs will commence on Saturday 7 May 2022 starting at 8am.
Media attending the count
Media are welcome to attend the counts on Friday 6 May and Saturday 7 May 2022. If you are interested in attending, please email email@example.com before the deadline of 12noon on Friday 29 April 2022 for details on the information you need to provide.
We will do our best to accommodate every request to attend the count. However due to venue capacity, we cannot guarantee entry for everyone.
For those who cannot attend, we will provide a breakdown of the election results and access to downloadable high-resolution images to use.
